Our Christmas and New Year's were just wonderful. My brothers (and the beautiful Audrey) were home for Christmas, and after opening presents with just Kelly, Hudson, and myself on Christmas morning (Santa was good to us), we went to my mom's house at "the end of the road". (A side note: if you know my mother, there is no one on this earth more well-suited to live, literally, at the end of the road. It is the perfect place for her, and she couldn't be happier.) Anyway, after VERY generous presents and a quick, yummy Christmas feast for lunch, Kelly and I and the Boy headed to Kerrville to spend some time with my in-laws, who were awesome gift-givers this year. I received my favorite perfume, and Hudson was bombarded with lots of new trucks. The child couldn't have been happier.
So after Christmas, we began gearing up for New Year's Eve...and we headed to ALPINE! Yay! And this time, we took Hudson with us without locking him in the car with no spare key. Alpine was beautiful and full of wonderful friends, just as it always is. Hudson visited the park with some new buddies, and we also got to visit Bryan and his family and see some ponies! However, the ponies took the backseat when Hudson discovered a new, bright orange TRACTOR at Bryan's place. I swear, he played on that thing for close to an hour, pushing all the buttons and jabbing and jerking the stick shifts. He was in heaven. And since we were in Alpine, so was his mama :)
I have to brag on the Boy just for a sec. Let's say he was in the car about 18 hours in the span of four days - it's about a six-hour drive from home, and then we rode around quite a bit after we arrived. And not ONCE did Hudson cry, or throw a fit, or just scream because he didn't want to get in the car. He was perfectly content to look out the window, play with his travel toys, and talk to himself. I am SO proud of him and his love of traveline. It'll make for some fun vacations in his future.
I'm trying to think of what else has been going on in the world of McGhee. Kelly is happy with his job, and I am actually glad to be back at school for mine. I do love what I do, and it's so fabulous to be in a job that you enjoy and look forward to. In my world, teaching is good bull. What else...? Oh, our precious Anna is retiring when I get out of school in May, so Hudson will be headed to daycare in August. Please toss a prayer our way that there will be room for him to move off the waiting list and into the classroom when it's the right time.
I think that's all for now. I'd like to give a shout-out to Rylynn and her parents - they are happy and healthy and living back home - YAY. We can't wait until Ry is healthy enough to play with Hudson and everyone else, but we understand that it's going to be a slow and steady healing process, and exposure to germs from anyone besides her parents isn't what is best for her right now. So for now, we'll keep talking to God about healthy kids, lots of rain, and any miracles He can spare to help the Aggies. We are so grateful for good friends, and supportive families, as we continue, in the words of Wooderson, "Livin' - L-I-V-I-N". So, from me to you...
